From Minúchihr as far as Kai Kubád
The whole state of Írán rejoiced in him. |
ز گاه منوچهر تا کیقباد
دل شهریاران بدو بود شاد |

نکوکارتر زو به ایران کسی
نبودهست کآورد نیکی بسی |

Men called him: ‘Lord of Rakhsh,’ ‘World-conqueror,’
‘King-maker,’ ‘Lion-queller.’ He is great; |
همی خواندندش خداوند رخش
جهانگیر و شیراوژن و تاجبخش |

His fame is not a new thing in the world;
He hath his patent from Sháh Kai Khusrau, |
نه اندر جهان نامداری نواست
بزرگست و با عهد کیخسرواست |

And if the patents of the Sháhs are void
One should not seek for patents from Gushtásp!” |
اگر عهد شاهان نباشد درست
نباید ز گشتاسپ منشور جست |

The Sháh replied: “My famed, illustrious son! |
چنین داد پاسخ به اسفندیار
که ای شیر دلْ پرهنرْ نامدار |

Whoe'er hath turned him from the way of God,
His patent is as is the desert-wind. |
هر آنکس که از راه یزدان بگشت
همان عهد او گشت چون باد دشت |

Thou surely must have heard how Sháh Káús
Went erring at the bidding of Iblís |
همانا شنیدی که کاوس شاه
به فرمان ابلیس گم کرد راه |

And, having sealed the sky on eagles' wings,
Fell vilely into water at Sárí.* |
همی باسمان شد به پرّ عُقاب
به زاری به ساری فتاد اندر آب |

He brought a dív's child from Hámávarán,
And made her mistress in the royal bower.* |
ز هاماوران دیو زادی ببرد
شبستان شاهی مر او را سپرد |

By her malpractice Siyáwush was slain,
The day departed from his family.* |
سیاوش به آزار او کشته شد
همه دوده زیر و زبر گشته شد |

It is
not well to pass the gate of one
That turneth from his fealty to God. |
کسی کو ز عهد جهاندار گشت
به گِرد در او نشاید گذشت |

If thou art eager for the crown and throne
Lead forth the host and hie thee to Sístán. |
اگر تخت خواهی ز من با کلاه
ره سیستان گیر و برکش سپاه |

Upon arriving there bind Rustam's hands,
And bring him with the lasso on thine arm. |
چو آنجا رسی دست رستم ببند
بیارش به بازو فگنده کمند |

As for Zawára, Farámarz, and Zál,
See that they set no traps upon thy way. |
زواره فرامرز و دستان سام
نباید که سازند پیش تو دام |

Bring them afoot and running to my court,
And bring them so that all the troops may see; |
پیاده دوانش بدین بارگاه
بیاور کشان تا ببیند سپاه |

Then none hereafter will revolt from us
However he may wish it and repugn.” |
از آن پس نپیچد سر از ما کسی
اگر کام اگر گنج یابد بسی |

The chieftain frowned. “Go not about,” he said,
“To compass such designs, |

Nor Rustam is in question here, but thou
Wouldst rid thee of Asfandiyár; |
تو را نیست دستان و رستم به کار
همی راه جویی به اسفندیار |

Concerned about the throne of empiry,

دریغ آیدت جای شاهی همی
مرا از جهان دور خواهی همی |
