23
The reign of Truth came to end, |
24
Pledge and loyalty became defenseless. |
25
Moaning of the lover, teasing of the beloved, |
26
Both became lies and pointless. |
27
Honesty and love and affection became fairy tales, |
28
Promise and honor all went away. |
29
In pursuit of theft, Homeland and faith became pretexts, |
30
Eyes became soaked! |
31
Cruelty of the land-lord, tyranny of the baron, |
32
Peasants have become restless with sorrow. |
33
The chalice of the rich, full of exquisite wine, |
34
Our cup is filled with the blood of our hearts. |
35
Oh yearning heart, lament, |
36
And shun the powerful. |
37
Forsake [the hope for] equality |
38
Flower-faced cup-bearer, give the fiery juice, |
39 |
Play heart-soothing tunes, Oh pleasant friend. |
40 |
Howl out of the cage, Oh sorrowful nightingale, |
41
For from your agony, my chest, |
42
Has flared up, has flared up! |
