Text & Translation

 << PART 1   Part 2

The reign of Truth came to end,
Pledge and loyalty became defenseless.
Moaning of the lover, teasing of the beloved,
Both became lies and pointless.
Honesty and love and affection became fairy tales,
Promise and honor all went away.
In pursuit of theft, Homeland and faith became pretexts,
Eyes became soaked!
Cruelty of the land-lord, tyranny of the baron,
Peasants have become restless with sorrow.
The chalice of the rich, full of exquisite wine,
Our cup is filled with the blood of our hearts.
Oh yearning heart, lament,
And shun the powerful.
Forsake [the hope for] equality
Flower-faced cup-bearer, give the fiery juice,
Play heart-soothing tunes, Oh pleasant friend.
Howl out of the cage, Oh sorrowful nightingale,
For from your agony, my chest,
Has flared up, has flared up!
