Jangnāme by Hāmed Shāh Abbāsi

This is Hāmed Shāh Abbāsi's "Jangnāme (-ye Emām Hosayn) which refers to the Battle of Karbala in CE 680. The text  is mainly in Punjabi language written in Shahmukhi script (in Perso-Arabic characters) but some parts are also in Persian. We supply below the beginning of the text (Part 1) and the end of the text (Part 2). Under each scanned image of the original line in nasta`liq style, we supply the re-typed line in machine-readable naskh but preserving some of the nasta`liq calligraphic forms, most notably what are known in Unicode as Heh Goal, Noon Gunna and BaRee Yeh, characters which are not used in Persian naskh word processing. Also given is transliteration into Gurmukhi script (used nowadays to write Punjabi in Indian Punjab while Pakistani Punjab continues to use Shahmukhi) and translation into Hindi and English. The very end of the text switches from Punjabi to Persian language. See the original source of  Part 1 and Part 2 at the Univ. of Michigan.

Lakhs and lakhs of praise to God who, the whole world,
He made from light, He made the command "Be!"
God the Pure made the fourteen levels (seven earths and seven heavens), recognize [it]!
He placed seven earths, heavens without [bajha] pillars/columns
Rays of light of the sky, sun, moon and stars
Is the sky's decoration, God made by Himself.
