6. Scansion. Scanning for both Persian and Arabic is all about finding the one kind of short syllable and the two kinds of long syllables. Short Syllable = Consonant + Short Vowel (CVshort). 7. Scansion. In order to make a long syllable short or vice-versa, that is, for the sake of the meter, the poet resorts to certain kinds of poetic license. See if you can identify them in this easy Quiz on Poetic License, Parts 1 2

8. Scansion. Another test to determine 1 short and 2 long syllables, including some situations particular to Persian and not found in Arabic.
