Hamid: bābāsh chand sal-e pish `omresh-o dād be shomā. |

Hamid: His Dad gave his life to you a few years ago.

Dokhtar: khodā rahmateshun kone. |
دختر: خدا رحمتشون کنه
(کند). |
Girl: Peace be upon him. (May God have mercy on him.) |
Hamid: khodā raftegān-e shomā-ro ham biyāmorze. |
حمید: خدا رفتگان شما رو هم بیامرزه
(بیامرزد). |
Hamid: May God also pardon your

Sa`id: che dokhtar-e hazer-javābi-ye! |

سعید: خیلی متشکّر، هاجر خانوم، منم،
سعید، پسر آقای ساغری، مستأجر شما، چارده، پونزده سال پیش. |
Sa`id: Thank you, hājar khānum, as for me, I'm Sa`id, the son
of Mr. Sāghari, your tenant, 14-15 years ago. |
Hajar khānom: vāāāāāy, bebakhshid! Nashnākhtam shomā-ro.(she
pronounces ro as re, in the northern dialect) |
هاجر خانم: وای، ببخشید! نشناختم
شما رو. |
Hājar Khānom: Why! Please forgive me! I didn't recognize you. |
Sa`id: in hamid-e. Dādāsham. un ham majid-e. yādetun
miyād? Miraft bālā-ye derakht-e anjir. |
سعید: این حمیده. داداشم.
اون هم مجیده. یادتون میآد؟ میرفت بالای درخت
انجیر... |
Sa`id: This is Hamid. My brother. As for that
one over there, that's Majid. Do you remember?
He used to climb (go) up the fig tree(s)... |
Hamid: anjirā-ye residasho (the -esh refers to the tree,
the tree's figs) khodesh mikhord. Nāresasho vāse shomā
miyandākht pāin. |
حمید: انجیرای (انجیرهای) رسیدشو خودش
میخورد. نارسشو واسه شما میانداخت پائین. |
Hamid: He would eat the ripe figs
himself. The unripe ones he would thrown down for you. |
Hājar khānom: bale, bale. In ham somayye, in dokhtarame,
befarmayid tashrif biyarin tu. |
هاجر خانم: بله، بله. این هم
سمیّه، این دخترمه، بفرمائید تشریف بیارین تو. |
Hājar khānom: Yes, yes.
And this is Somayye, she is my daughter, please won't you
come in (respectful)? |
Sa`id: khayli moteshakker, khodā behetun bebakhshe. Mozahem
nemishim... |
سعید: خیلی متشکّر، خدا بهتون ببخشه
(ببخشد). مزاحم نمیشیم.... |
Sa`id: Thank you very much, God bless you. We aren't
disturbing.... |
Hājar khānom: khāhesh mikonam. Che mozāhemati? Befarmāid! |
هاجر خانم: خواهش میکنم. چه
مزاحمتی؟ بفرمائید! |
Hajar khānom: Please. What disturbance? Please come in. |
Sa`id: khayli mamnun, mādaretun hastand? |
سعید: خیلی ممنون، مادرتون هستند؟ |
Sa`id: Thank you very much, is your mother (the mother is
called Hāj Khānum) around? |
Hājar Khānom: khoftand (= khābide and
or khāband) , alān bidāreshun mikonam. Befarmāid ye
dune chai bokhorid. Dame dar bade. Befarmāid! |
هاجر خانم: خفتند (خوابیدهاند)، الآن بیدارشون میکنم.
بفرمائید یه دونه (یک دانه) چائی بخورید. دم در بده (بد
است). بفرمائید! |
Hājar Khānom:
She's sleeping, I'll just wake her up. Please
drink a cup (dune is a counting or measure word) of tea.
It's not nice [to remain] at the door. Please come in! |
Hamid: bā ejāzatun, khayli mamnun, sarf shode. Mozāhem
nemishim. Hā? |
حمید: با اجازتون، خیلی ممنون، صرف شده.
مزاحم نمیشیم. ها؟ |
Hamid: With your permission, much obliged,
tea was already drunk (we just had tea before coming).
We aren't making any trouble, right? |
Hājar Khānom: befarmāyid, somayye boro (imperative)
mādarbozorgo sedā bokon, āfarin! |
هاجر خانم: بفرمائید، سمیّه برو
مادربزرگو صدا بکن، آفرین! |
Hājar Khānom: Please come in, Somayye, go and call
Grandmother, bravo! |
Sa`id: bā ejāze, yā allāh. |
سعید: با اجازه، یا الله. |
Sa`id: With your permission, in
the name of God. (yā Allāh, Oh God, is a formula men use to
announce their entrance so that any women inside won't be
caught unawares.) |
