1 Chapter One فصل اول
2 One Friday morning the dwellers of the shore had seen a little boy with eyes as blue as the sea releasing blue, green, yellow, brown, red, purple, white, pink and orange boats he had made from paper into the sea. ساحل‌نشینان دریا در یک صبح جمعه کنار دریا، پسرکی را با چشمان آبی به رنگ دریا دیده بودند که قایق‌هایی به رنگ‌های آبی، سبز، زرد، قهوه‌ای، قرمز، بنفش، سفید، صورتی و پرتقالی از کاغذ ساخته بود و آنها را در دریا رها کرده بود.
3 That Friday the wind had been blowing over the sea and the shore since morning. آن روز جمعه از صبح بر دریا و ساحل باد می‌وزید.
4 The wind had slowly slowly distanced the little boy's paper boats from the shore. باد، قایق‌های کاغذی پسرک را آرام آرام از ساحل دور کرده بود.
5 At sunset the little boy had seen the paper boats have become effaced in the end of the sea. پسرک هنگام غروب دیده بود قایق‌های کاغذی در انتهای دریا محو شده‌اند.
6 The little boy had written his name on all the paper boats. پسرک نام خود را بر همهٔ قایق‌های کاغذی نوشته بود.
7 All the years that passed over the sea, the shore and the people on its shore, no one took a track/follow-up of the paper boats. در همهٔ سال‌هایی که بر دریا و ساحل و مردمان ساحل گذشت، کسی سراغی از قایق‌های کاغذی نگرفت.
8 The dwellers of the shore had forgotten that Friday and the paper boats. مردمان ساحل آن روز جمعه و قایق‌های کاغذی را از یاد برده بودند.
9 The little boy would see every night the dream of the paper boats which one Friday the wind had carried away. پسرک همه شب خواب قایق‌های کاغذی را می‌دید که یک روز جمعه باد آنها را برده بود.
10 Chapter Two فصل دوم
11 In all the years, all the Fridays, the dwellers of the shore, on the side of the sea, saw an old man with blue eyes who was staring at the sea from the dawning of morning to the setting of the sun. در همهٔ سال‌ها، همهٔ جمعه‌ها ساحل‌نشینان کنار دریا پیرمردی را با چشمان آبی می‌دیدند که از سپیدهٔ صبح تا غروب آفتاب به دریا خیره بود.
12 The old people of the shore would say: پیران ساحل می‌گفتند:
13 They had seen the blue-eyed old man from childhood to old age all the Fridays, on the seaside, who from the dawning of mornin g to the setting of the sun is [with] eyes pinned at the sea. پیرمرد چشم‌آبی را از کودکی تا پیری همهٔ جمعه‌ها کنار دریا دیده بودند که از سپیدهٔ صبح تا غروب آفتاب به دریا چشم دوخته است.
14 No one knew his name and no one had heard his voice. کسی نام او را نمی‌دانست و کسی صدای او را نشنیده بود.
15 Always they had seen him Fridays on the seaside with a black garment. همیشه او را روزهای جمعه کنار دریا با لباسی سیاه دیده بودند.
16 Chapter Three فصل سوم
17 That spring night the rain until morning had fallen on houses and the sea. آن شب بهاری باران تا صبح بر خانه‌ها و دریا باریده بود.
18 That spring night the dwellers of the shore from the sound of wind and rain remained awake until morning. آن شب بهاری ساحل‌نشینان از صدای باد و باران تا صبح بیدار مانده بودند.
19 Tomorrow/the next day was Friday. فردا روز جمعه بود.
20 Chapter Four فصل چهارم
21 The dwellers of the shore arrived at the shore with the dandelions the wind had brought to their homes from the sea. ساحل‌نشینان همراه قاصدک‌هایی که باد از دریا به خانه‌های آنان آورده بود به ساحل رسیدند.
22 They knew whenever the wind should bring dandelions from the sea to their homes, they should expect an incident from the sea. آنان می‌دانستند هر هنگام که باد قاصدک‌ها را از دریا به خانه‌های آنان بیاورد باید در انتظار اتفاقی از دریا باشند.
23 The dwellers of the shore, on the seaside, saw the blue-eyed old man, who for the first time has a  garment the color of the sea on his body drowning in white dandelions and has his eyes fixed on the sea. ساحل‌نشینان کنار دریا پیرمرد با چشمان آبی را دیدند که برای نخستین بار لباسی آبی به رنگ دریا بر تن دارد و در قاصدک‌های سفید غرق است و چشم به دریا دارد.
24 Chapter Five فصل پنجم
25 The dwellers of the shore saw: ساحل‌نشینان دیدند:
26 the wind softly bring to shore a blue boat. باد آرام، قایقی به رنگ آبی به ساحل آورد.
27 The blue boat was filled with live, young fish. قایق آبی پر از ماهیان زنده و جوان بود.
28 Chapter Six فصل ششم
29 The dwellers of the shore saw: ساحل‌نشینان دیدند:
30 the wind softly bring to shore a green boat. باد آرام، قایقی به رنگ سبز به ساحل آورد.
31 The green boat was filled with grains of wheat and young brances of grape. قایق سبز پر از دانه‌های گندم و شاخه‌های جوان انگور بود.

33 The dwellers of the shore saw: ساحل‌نشینان دیدند:
34 the wind softly bring to shore a white boat. باد آرام، قایقی به رنگ سفید به ساحل آورد.
35 The white boat was filled with bridal gowns no one had ever put on. قایق سفید پر از لباس‌های عروس بود که کسی آنها را نپوشیده بود.
36 The white boat was filled with small and large mirrors. قایق سفید پر از آینه‌های کوچک و بزرگ بود.
37 Chapter Eight فصل هشتم
38 The dwellers of the shore saw: ساحل‌نشینان دیدند:
39 the wind softly bring to shore a pink boat. باد آرام، قایقی به رنگ صورتی به ساحل آورد.
40 The pink boat was filled with sprays of roses, fragrant wintersweet, geraniums, with shoots of violets and primroses, and with baby clothes and shoes and colorful coils of yarn. قایق صورتی پر از بوته‌های گل سرخ، گل یخ، گل شمعدانی و نشای گل‌های بنفشه و پامچال، و لباس‌ها و کفش‌های نوزادان و کلاف‌های رنگین بود.
41 Chapter Nine فصل نهم
42 The dwellers of the shore saw: ساحل‌نشینان دیدند:
43 the wind softly bring to shore a red boat. باد آرام، قایقی به رنگ قرمز به ساحل آورد.
44 The red boat was filled with lit lanterns and tulip-shaped glass lamps and candles. قایق قرمز پر از شمع‌ها، لاله‌ها و فانوس‌های روشن بود.

46 The dwellers of the shore saw: ساحل‌نشینان دیدند:
47 the wind softly bring to shore an orange boat. باد آرام، قایقی به رنگ پرتقال به ساحل آورد.
48 The orange boat was filled with thousands of leaves, white sheets of paper and boxes aplenty of colored pencils. قایق پرتقالی پر از هزاران برگ، کاغذ سفید و جعبه‌های انبوه از مداد رنگی بود.
49 Chapter Eleven فصل یازدهم
50 The dwellers of the shore saw: ساحل‌نشینان دیدند:
51 the wind softly bring to shore a brown boat. باد آرام، قایقی به رنگ قهوه‌ای به ساحل آورد.
52 The brown boat was filled with musical instruments. قایق قهوه‌ای پر از سازهای موسیقی بود.

54 The dwellers of the shore saw: ساحل‌نشینان دیدند:
55 the wind softly bring to shore a yellow boat. باد آرام، قایقی به رنگ زرد به ساحل آورد.
56 The yellow boat was filled with little, young orange, sweet lemon and Seville orange trees. قایق زرد پر از درختچه‌های جوان پرتقال، لیمو و نارنج بود.
57 Chapter Thirteen فصل سیزدهم
58 Upon the turn of the new year on the shore, old men hung the glowing lanterns, tulip-shaped lamps and candles on the doors of houses on the shore. سال نو که در ساحل تحویل شد، پیرمردان، شمع‌ها، لاله‌ها و فانوس‌های روشن را بر در خانه‌های ساحل آویختند.
59 Chapter Fourteen فصل چهاردهم
60 Upon the turn of the new year on the shore, men poured the fish into the sea and planted on the shore the wheat grains, grape stems and young orange, sweet lemon and Seville orange trees. سال نو که در ساحل تحویل شد، مردان، ماهیان را به دریا ریختند و دانه‌های گندم، شاخه‌های انگور و درختچه‌های پرتقال و لیمو و نارنج را در ساحل کاشتند.
61 Chapter Fifteen فصل پانزدهم
62 Upon the turn of the new year on the shore, young girls put on the new, white bridal gowns and looked at themselves in the mirrors. سال نو که در ساحل تحویل شد، دختران جوان، لباس‌های نو و سفید عروسی را پوشیدند و خود را در آینه نگاه کردند.
63 Chapter Sixteen فصل شانزدهم
64 Upon the turn of the new year on the shore, mothers put the pink clothes on the babies. سال نو که در ساحل تحویل شد، مادران، لباس‌های صورتی را تن نوزادان کردند.
65 The babies went to sleep and saw the sea in their dreams. نوزادان به خواب رفتند و دریا را به خواب دیدند.
66 Chapter Seventeen فصل هفدهم
67 Upon the turn of the new year on the shore, young people strummed the instruments. Up until then no one on the seaside had ever heard their sound. سال نو که در ساحل تحویل شد، جوانان، سازها را نواختند. تا آن روز کسی در ساحل، صدای سازها را نشنیده بود.
68 Chapter Eighteen فصل هجدهم
69 Upon the turn of the new year on the shore, women wove rugs and cloth with the colorful coils of yarn and laid out the sofre-ye haft-sin on the rugs. سال نو که در ساحل تحویل شد، زنان با کلاف‌های رنگارنگ، فرش‌ها و پارچه‌ها بافتند و سفره‌های هفت سین را بر فرش‌ها پهن کردند.
70 Chapter Nineteen فصل نوزدهم
71 Upon the turn of the new year on the shore, children wrote out their penmanship practice on the white sheets and with the colored pencils painted the face of the blue-eyed old man and the sea. سال نو که در ساحل تحویل شد، کودکان بر کاغذهای سفید مشق نوشتند و با مدادهای رنگی چهرهٔ پیرمرد چشم‌آبی و دریا را نقاشی کردند.
72 Chapter Twenty فصل بیستم
73 On the first morning of the new year, the seashore was filled with children who had released thousands of colored paper boats onto the sea. صبح روز نخستین سال نو، ساحل دریا پر از کودکانی بود که هزاران قایق کاغذی رنگی را در دریا رها کرده بودند.
74 They had drawn the face of the old man on the boats. روی قایق‌ها، کودکان، چهرهٔ پیرمرد را کشیده بودند.
75 Chapter Twenty One فصل بیست و یکم
76 On the first morning of the new year, people went to the house of the blue-eyed old man to congratulate him on the new year. صبح روز نخستین سال نو، مردمان ساحل برای تبریک سال نو به خانهٔ پیرمرد چشم‌آبی رفتند.
77 The old men and children called the blue-eyed old man, پیرمردان و کودکان، پیرمرد چشم‌آبی را صدا کردند؛
78 but they only heard their own voice. اما فقط صدای خود را شنیدند.
79 The door of the house and the door(s) of the rooms were open. درِ خانه و درِ اتاق‌ها گشوده بود.
80 On the porch of the house the haft-sin was laid out. بر ایوان خانه سفرهٔ هفت سین پهن بود.
81 Chapter Twenty Two فصل بیست و دوم
82 No one found out where the old man with eyes the color of the sea had gone. کسی ندانست پیرمردی که چشمانی به رنگ دریا داشت، کجا رفت؛
83 However, everyone knows the door to his house and the door(s) to the rooms of his house are open the four seasons of the year and that every year upon the turn of the new year the dwellers of the shore lay out the haft-sin on his porch. اما همه می‌دانند در خانه و در اتاق‌های خانهٔ او چهار فصل سال گشوده است و مردمان ساحل هر سال هنگام تحویل سال بر ایوان خانهٔ او سفرهٔ هفت سین را پهن می‌کنند.
