1 Let’s not muddy up the water : آب را گل نکنیم
  Downstream, suppose a dove drinks the water. در فرودست انگار، کفتری می‌خورد آب
  Or in a distant glade, a linnet washes its feathers یا که ‌در بیشه‌ای دور، سیره‌ای پر می‌شوید
2 Or in the hamlet, a jug is being filled. یا در آبادی، کوزه‌ای پر میگردد
   
3 Let’s not muddy up the water: آب را گل نکنیم:
  Perhaps this rolling water goes to the foot of a poplar, to wash down the sorrow of a heart. شاید این آب روان، می‌رود پای سپیداری تا فروشوید اندوه‌دلی
4 The hand of a dervish, perhaps, has dunked dry bread in the
water.		 دست درویشی شاید، نان خشکیده‌ فرو برده‌ در آب
   
5 A pretty woman came to river front, زن زیبایی آمد لب رود،
  Let’s not muddy up the water: آب را گل نکنیم:
  The fair face has doubled. روی زیبا دو برابر شده‌ است
   
6 How salubrious this water! چه ‌گوارا این آب!
  How pellucid this river! چه‌ زلال این رود!
  How delightful upstream people are! مردم بالادست، چه‌ صفایی دارند!
   
7 May their wellsprings remain gushing, their cows milk spurting! چشمه‌هاشان جوشان، گاوهاشان شیرافشان باد!
  I haven’t seen their village, من ندیدم دهشان
  No doubt by the foot of their hedges lie the footsteps of God. بی‌گمان پای چپرهاشان جا پای خداست
8 Moonlight there, illuminates the breadth of Words. ماهتاب آنجا، می‌کند رو شن پهنای کلام
  No doubt in the village upstream, mud-walls are short. بی‌گمان در ده‌بالادست، چینه‌ها کوتاه ‌است
  Its people know what flower the poppy is. مردمش می‌دانند، که ‌شقایق چه‌ گلی است
  No doubt, there it is blue, blue. بی‌گمان آنجا آبی، آبی است
  A bud blossoms, all village folks are informed. غنچه‌ای می‌شکفد، اهل ده ‌باخبرند
     
9 What a village it must be! چه‌ دهی باید باشد!
  May its garden alleys remain full of music! کوچه باغش پر موسیقی باد!
  Upstream people understand water. مردمان سر رود، آب را می‌فهمند
  They did not muddy it up, let us also گل نکردندش، ما نیز
  Not muddy up the water. آب را گل نکنیم
