The letter `Ayn in Arabic and Persian. Hear and See the difference!

1 `amr 'lifetime' عمر

1a Arabic Fushā `omr

عمر

The Arabic initial `ayn as pronounced by a native speaker of Arabic. The Arabic recordings here have been generously provided by Mourad Diouri of e-Arabic Learning Portal (eALP). As a student of Persian, you will greatly benefit from his educational AND entertaining set of podcasts on similar sounds in the Arabic language.
1b Persian Written/Formal omr

عمر

Arabic `ayn replaced by a glottal stop. If you are coming to Persian having first studied Arabic, you have to "unlearn" the `ayn. Note that you still have to spell it with the `ayn despite what you hear. Spelling is not phonetic!
