Directions: While āya can appear in the middle of a sentence for other meanings, when āyā appears at the beginning of a sentence, it is usually there to let you know that this is a yes-no question. Āyā usually is not used in spoken style Persian which prefers devices such as intonation, stress, negative questions, etc in place of āyā.
